The two levelled building holds 770 audience members, and since 2004 when £1.8 million was donated towards the theatre from the Heritage lottery fund, the Playhouse has been able to fund a new bar and restaurant, along with a new educational space.
The Playhouse also offers services for those trying to break into the theatre industry or perhaps just struggling. Services and groups include BRIT; The Black Regional Initiative in Theatre that aims to create a more equal Black and Asian theatre in the UK. The Playhouse also offers the Theatre Writing Partnership, a unique project which allows the Playhouse to collaborate with other Theatres around the country, whilst also giving themselves a chance to commission their own production once a year. For school teachers looking to educate their classes through the performing arts, The Playhouse has the Playhouse Roundabout; a group of young actors dedicated to performing educational workshops to students across the country.
If being creative and getting involved isn’t exactly your thing, but instead you would rather just enjoy the production, the Playhouse of course offer fantastic deals for their visitors, whilst also offering a new customer service strategy called Platinum Playhouse. The project aims to utilize feedback from customers to improve customer relations and service at the Playhouse.
Even without Platinum Playhouse, the theatre’s customer service seems impeccable with what they offer. The Playhouse comes with wheelchair access as well as parking available for blue badge holders, and they also offer a deal where wheelchair users can buy tickets for half the usual price. For the hard of hearing and hard of sight visitors, the Playhouse offers sign interpreted and audio described performances as well as captioned performances.
The Playhouse is a beautifully designed building with a spectacular interior, and outside visitors will see the truly unique sculpture Sky Mirror by Anish Kapoor, one of the many features of the 160 seat patio which just adds to the Playhouse’s visually brilliant exterior.
